‘King of the Hill’ Voice Actor Jonathan Joss Dies in Texas Shooting

Jonathan Joss, who voiced John Redcorn in “King of the Hill,” died on June 1 after a neighbor shot him outside his former home in San Antonio. He was 59.
Earlier that day, Joss and his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, visited the property, which had burned down earlier this year. During the visit, they encountered a neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja. Witnesses say Alvarez Ceja shouted slurs and then opened fire. Joss pushed his husband out of harm’s way but was fatally struck. Authorities later charged Alvarez Ceja, 56, with murder.
Police continue to investigate the incident.

Throughout his career, Joss appeared in more than voice roles. He played Chief Ken Hotate on “Parks and Recreation” and acted in “Tulsa King,” “Ray Donovan,” and several films. He was set to return as John Redcorn in a new Hulu reboot of “King of the Hill” this August.
Joss, who was of Comanche and White Mountain Apache descent, championed Native representation in media. He and Gonzales had recently married on Valentine’s Day.
“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone; we were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” de Gonzales said in a statement.
Later this year, Joss will appear posthumously in the revived series.
