Janet Jackson gets Icon Award at 2025 AMAs

Janet Jackson made a return to live television during the 2025 American Music Awards on May 26. It was her first live performance in seven years. She was also given the Icon Award that night.
She wore a white bomber jacket and jeans while performing “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You.” Her set included a dance break and a guitar solo. Actress Tasha Smith introduced her before the award.
In her speech, Jackson said, “I am so, so honored. I am so grateful. I mean no disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon.” She went on, “My family, myself—our dream wasn’t ever to be famous. We weren’t raised like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing, and singing, and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication.”
- First time Jackson performed live on TV since 2018
- Performed two songs: “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You”
- Icon Award presented by Tasha Smith
- Currently headlining a residency in Las Vegas through September 2025
- 11-time American Music Awards winner and five-time Grammy winner
She added, “My story, my family’s story, it’s truly an American story,” and closed by saying, “Because of you and God, I’m standing right here. I want to thank the AMAs … —and last but not least, I … God in every part of your life … .”
Her return was seen as one of the biggest moments of the show.
