Billy Joel cancelled his tour after learning he has normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a neurological disorder marked by excess brain fluid. The diagnosis came shortly after a stage fall in February during a show in Connecticut.

At Mohegan Sun Arena, Joel lost his balance while singing “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” Despite finishing the set, he later canceled additional dates and sought medical evaluation. Doctors confirmed NPH, a condition that can cause hearing loss, vision issues, and trouble walking. Specialists indicate the condition is often missed but may be treatable through surgery.

In response, Joel has entered physical therapy and decided to cancel all performances until July 2026. His representatives reported that performing worsened his symptoms. Altogether, 17 concerts in cities like Toronto, New York, and Liverpool will not proceed. All ticket purchases will be refunded automatically.

  • Diagnosis: Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH)
  • Common symptoms: Cognitive issues, vision/hearing loss, balance problems
  • Canceled shows: 17, spanning North America and the U.K.
  • Refund policy: Automatic for all ticket holders

Addressing fans, Joel said, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.” He praised his care team, stating he’s receiving “excellent care.”

Joel aims to return to the stage eventually, once his condition improves. Meanwhile, his upcoming documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, will premiere this June on HBO.
