Three Bay Area restaurants earned new stars at the 2025 Michelin Guide California ceremony, held on June 25 in Sacramento, strengthening the region’s influence in fine dining.

San Francisco’s Kiln moved up to two stars, marking a major achievement for chef John Wesley and his team. They specialize in fermentation-driven cuisine that relies on techniques like curing and aging.

Meanwhile, across the Bay, Sun Moon Studio in Oakland secured its first Michelin star. Chefs Alan Hsu and Sarah Cooper lead the restaurant with a seasonal tasting menu that ties California-grown ingredients to exacting technique. Their recognition makes Sun Moon Studio just the second Michelin-starred restaurant in Oakland, alongside Commis.

Further north, Enclos in Sonoma debuted with two stars and earned a Green Star for its sustainable practices. Chef Brian Limoges guides the kitchen with a focus on precision and low-impact sourcing. Speaking after the awards, Limoges said, “I’m so proud to bring it home for the community of Sonoma and the McQuowns… and all they’ve created.”

Importantly, no Bay Area restaurants lost two- or three-star honors this year. However, Chez TJ in Mountain View dropped from the list, and San Francisco’s Osito closed its doors earlier in 2025.
