Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has died in a car crash in Spain at age 28. His brother, fellow soccer player André Silva, also died in the accident.

The crash happened just after midnight on July 3. Jota was behind the wheel of a Lamborghini on the A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla, in Zamora. Police believe a tyre blowout caused the vehicle to flip over and catch fire. Neither brother survived.

Silva, 25, played for Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and quickly made his mark, scoring 65 goals across 182 matches. He helped secure the 2024–25 Premier League title and earned 49 caps for Portugal, scoring 14 goals.

Just days before the tragedy, Jota married Rute Cardoso. They shared three children.

Liverpool described the news as an “unimaginable loss.” Jürgen Klopp said, “Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father.”
