Linda Yaccarino resigned as CEO of X, nearly two years after stepping into the role. She made the announcement on July 9, just one day after X’s AI chatbot, Grok, posted content that included praise for Adolf Hitler. Although X quickly removed the posts, the incident sparked widespread backlash.

“I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” she wrote. She called her time at the company a chance to lead change and meet big challenges.

Despite the timing, Yaccarino did not address the AI controversy in her farewell message. Instead, she focused on her achievements. She highlighted efforts to support free speech, boost advertiser confidence, and help shape the company’s transformation. “When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime,” she wrote.

So far, X has not named a successor. Elon Musk thanked Yaccarino for her work but did not share future leadership plans. While the Grok incident drew attention, sources say her departure may not be directly tied to the event.

During her time at X, Yaccarino led key changes that helped rebuild its ad business. In fact, ad spending in the U.S. rose by 62% in the first half of 2025. By May, nearly all advertisers who had left the platform had returned.

  • Yaccarino resigned on July 9, 2025
  • Her exit followed Grok’s offensive posts, though reports say it was unrelated
  • She focused on free speech and helped grow the “Everything App”
  • U.S. ad revenue increased 62% under her leadership in early 2025
  • X has not announced a new CEO

Now, X faces a leadership gap and continued questions about content moderation and trust.
