Timberwolves Lead Lakers 2-1 After 38-Point Game from LeBron in Game 3 Loss

The Timberwolves lead Lakers 2-1 in their first-round NBA playoff series after securing a 116-104 win in Game 3. Despite LeBron James’ stellar 38-point performance, Minnesota held on, with Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels contributing key points down the stretch. The Lakers, with Luka Dončić playing limited minutes due to illness, couldn’t capitalize on James’ efforts.
LeBron James’ Performance Falls Short for Lakers
LeBron James gave fans another reminder of why he’s one of the greatest in NBA history. At 40 years old, he scored 38 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and added 4 assists in Game 3 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. His performance set a new NBA playoff scoring record for players over 40.
James was electric, especially in the fourth quarter, where he drained three 3-pointers in a quick burst that energized the Lakers and brought them within striking distance. He also added two steals and two blocks, showing his impact on both ends of the floor.
Despite his impressive stats and leadership on the court, the Lakers couldn’t keep up with the Timberwolves’ balanced attack and strong defense in the final minutes. James did everything he could, but the Lakers now trail 2-1 in the series and face pressure heading into Game 4. His effort, though, was unforgettable.
Timberwolves’ Strong Finish and Key Contributions
Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards posted 29 points, while Jaden McDaniels added 30. The Timberwolves’ defense was instrumental, preventing the Lakers from scoring in the final four minutes. They shot 48.4% from the field and limited turnovers to just eight, a significant improvement from Game 2.
The Lakers, also affected by a stomach bug in Luka Dončić, couldn’t find a rhythm. Dončić finished with 17 points but was hindered by the illness, making it difficult for him to contribute as expected. Despite the Lakers’ defensive strategy, Minnesota pulled away with key plays in the final minutes.
With Game 4 set for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET, the Timberwolves will look to extend their lead, while the Lakers will hope for better health and a stronger team performance to tie the series.
