Manchester police arrested Chris Brown in connection with an alleged 2023 nightclub assault. The case has drawn renewed legal attention as investigators tie the singer to a violent incident at a London club more than a year ago.

Officers took the 36-year-old into custody at The Lowry Hotel during the early morning of May 15. They say the arrest follows allegations that Brown attacked music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in Mayfair. Brown allegedly hit Diaw with a tequila bottle, then continued assaulting him after he lost consciousness.

Diaw says Brown used a Don Julio 1942 bottle to strike him, then kicked and punched him until he blacked out. Medical records show he sustained serious head wounds and ligament damage in one leg, which required surgery and a long recovery.

In October 2023, Diaw responded by filing a civil lawsuit. He seeks $16 million in damages for both physical and reputational harm. In his legal complaint, he accuses Brown of spreading false claims of theft—accusations he says damaged his standing in the industry.

“I was hurt physically, yes,” Diaw said last fall. “But what came afterward did even more damage to my work.”

Key facts:

  • The arrest is tied to a February 2023 nightclub assault
  • Abe Diaw claims Brown hit him with a tequila bottle
  • Diaw is seeking $16 million in damages
  • Brown’s UK tour dates remain unchanged
  • Police have not filed charges yet

Tour Remains On-Schedule

Brown has been preparing for the “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, marking his 20th year in music. The tour includes stops in Manchester, London, and Glasgow. His team has not announced any changes to the schedule.

The Metropolitan Police say officers from the Central West Area Command are leading the investigation. While they have not filed charges, they continue to review evidence.

Brown’s legal history includes a 2009 felony assault conviction involving Rihanna and a 2017 restraining order granted to Karrueche Tran.
