LCD Soundsystem and Christina Aguilera to Headline Portola 2025

The Portola Music Festival returns to San Francisco on September 20 and 21. This year’s lineup features a wide range of music styles, led by LCD Soundsystem and Christina Aguilera. The two-day event is once again hosted by Goldenvoice, the organizers behind Coachella.

As in past years, Pier 80 will serve as the main location, offering both indoor and outdoor stages across its large waterfront space. Given that previous editions drew tens of thousands of fans, this year is expected to be one of the busiest yet.

In addition to the headliners, several well-known and up-and-coming acts will take the stage. For example, Moby will perform his 1999 album Play in its entirety. Meanwhile, UK group The Prodigy returns to a U.S. stage for the first time in years. Furthermore, The Chemical Brothers are set to deliver a DJ set, and Underworld will bring their signature electronic sound to the festival.

One of this year’s standout features is Despacio, a unique setup created by James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and the Dewaele brothers of Soulwax. Specifically, it’s designed as a circular dance space with custom-built speaker towers. As a result, they aim to offer a more detailed and lower-volume sound compared to the main stages.

“We’re glad to bring Despacio to San Francisco. It’s a way to let the music speak for itself in a different kind of space,” James Murphy said in a recent statement.

In response to community feedback from last year, when over 200 noise complaints were reported, organizers will implement new sound monitoring methods. Additionally, they plan to adjust speaker positioning and provide a help line for neighbors throughout the weekend.
