Top Contenders Lead the Pack

Kendrick Lamar leads with nine nominations, including Album, Record, and Song of the Year for GNX and “luther” featuring SZA. It marks his fifth straight album to earn an Album of the Year nomination.

Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff, and Cirkut follow with seven nominations each. Gaga’s Mayhem earned her a triple nod in the major categories, thanks to the hit “Abracadabra.” The project highlights her bold return to pop experimentation.

Diversity in Sound and Language

Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Leon Thomas, and Serban Ghenea each received six nominations. Bad Bunny also made history as the first Spanish-language artist to be nominated in the top three categories at once.

This year’s Album of the Year race is stacked. Nominees include Justin Bieber (SWAG), Lady Gaga (Mayhem), Kendrick Lamar (GNX), Bad Bunny (Debí Tirar Más Fotos), Sabrina Carpenter (Man’s Best Friend), Leon Thomas (MUTT), Clipse (Let God Sort Em Out), and Tyler, The Creator (CHROMAKOPIA).

Global Impact and Historic Firsts

Rosé of BLACKPINK became the first K-pop solo artist to earn a Record of the Year nomination. Her duet with Bruno Mars, “APT,” cemented the growing global presence of Korean artists at the Grammys. This recognition underscores the Academy’s effort to embrace international music influences.

Rising Voices and New Categories

The Best New Artist category highlights fresh talent like Olivia Dean, KATSEYE, Addison Rae, Leon Thomas, and Lola Young. Their inclusion signals a new era of genre-blending performers.

Two new categories debuted this year: Best Traditional Country Album and Best Album Cover. Updated eligibility rules now allow emerging artists to qualify for Best New Artist even if they contributed to a major album before, as long as their share was limited.

Who’s Missing and What’s Next

Notably absent are Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Neither released new music during the eligibility period. Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl missed the cutoff by only a few days.

Final voting runs from December 12, 2025, to January 5, 2026. With Lamar, Gaga, and Bad Bunny leading key races, the 2026 Grammys promise a celebration of creativity, diversity, and innovation.
