Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, has officially entered politics. On November 11, 2025, the 32-year-old announced his candidacy for New York’s 12th Congressional District. The seat will soon be vacated by longtime Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler. Schlossberg said he’s running to “rebuild trust in government” and bring “new energy” to Washington.

The Race for New York’s 12th District

The district covers Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Midtown. It is one of the most Democratic and affluent areas in the country. With Nadler retiring after 17 terms, the open seat has drawn strong interest. Schlossberg is expected to face several challengers, including Assemblyman Micah Lasher, Rhodes Scholar Liam Elkind, and Assembly member Alex Bores.

A Platform of Renewal

In his announcement video and campaign email, Schlossberg said America is “in crisis.” He called for a new generation of leaders to protect democracy. His campaign focuses on transparency, opportunity, and civic engagement. He emphasized that Democrats must “win back the House” in 2026 to advance progress and protect democratic norms.

Education and Background

Schlossberg holds law and business degrees from Harvard. He passed the New York State Bar in 2023. The son of U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and designer Edwin Schlossberg, he has worked as a commentator for Vogue. He often speaks out on national issues and is known for criticizing former President Donald Trump. He has also disagreed publicly with his cousin, Independent politician Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Kennedy Legacy

If elected, Schlossberg would be the seventh member of his family to serve in Congress. His grandfather, uncles, and cousins all held office in previous generations. Analysts say his success will depend on how well he balances his famous name with fresh ideas. “Voters will respect the Kennedy legacy,” one observer said, “but they also want to see what Jack brings that’s new.”

Schlossberg says he is ready to meet that challenge, proving that public service, for him, is not just a family tradition but a personal mission.
